Factual Entertainment Programme

Fired by Facebook is a factual entertainment programme that looks at the current developing trend of people being fired, breaking up from relationships and other mishaps involving the use and misuse of the social network site Facebook.

The show looks at five peoples stories as they describe them in their own words, followed by feedback and criticism from a social media expert Mariann Hardey, all accompanied by illustrative visuals and lead by presenter Robbie Paulin.

The opening title sequence was illustrated in Adobe Illustrator and animated in Adobe After Effects. It attempts to imitate the visual aesthetics and quirks of Facebook which regular users of the social networking site would recognise, things like the default Facebook avatar and notifications were incorporated as comedic nods towards the world of Facebook.

The full programme contains many motion graphics which were used to illustrate stories of events which took place on Facebook. This visualisation technique also helped avoid constantly using screen-shots of Facebook to describe stories.
